Why Cow’s Milk Can Cause Health Issues, Including Cancer

Your entire life you’ve been told that “milk does a body good”. Does that mean your grandmother and mother were wrong. Well yes, but it’s not entirely their fault. It’s actually the dairy industry that is wrong and has been lying to us.

You see, cow’s milk contains many more things than the calcium that your body needs (which you can get from other foods). Cow’s milk contains antibiotics, steroids, pesticides and estrogen. And let’s face it, our bodies do not need hormones from another mammal.

According to the Ganmaa Davaasambuu, a scientist and PhD. in environmental health, “dairy accounts for 60 percent to 80 percent of estrogens consumed”. Only pregnant cows produce milk and the later into a cow’s pregnancy, the more hormones appear in her milk. And this is even true for organic milk; just because organic milk doesn’t have any “added hormones” doesn’t mean there are no hormones being consumed. Organic milk still contains over 60 different hormones.

So while milk consumption can lead to thinks like early puberty, insulin issues and mood swings because of the estrogen, studies have shown that dairy can be linked to certain types of cancers. Specifically breast, prostate, and testicular cancers which are all hormone-dependent cancers.

In countries where there is a high rate of milk consumption, there have been more deaths from cancer, especially prostate cancer. Scientists have studied this and found in 14 separate prostate cancer experiments that when they took prostate cancer cells and exposed them to cow’s milk (they used organic milk), the milk stimulated the growth of the cells over 30%.

So other than the estrogen in cow’s milk, what else can contribute to cancer? The protein found in milk – casein.

The connection between casein and cancer was so profound in rat experiments that the scientists could literally turn cancer growth on and off in the laboratory animals, like a light switch, simply by altering the level of casein protein in their diets.

Casein breaks down in the stomach and produces something called casomorphin, which acts like a stimulant to produce mucus in the respiratory system. This explains why people with respiratory problems, including asthma, find that their symptoms improve when they eliminate dairy.

This is not new information, Moses Maimondes was a physician in the 12th century who wrote about the intake of milk exacerbating asthma. And traditional Chinese medicine has categorized milk as a mucus forming food and recommends avoiding it.

Mucus allows a place for bacteria to grow, and over production of mucus “is important for the formation of tumors and can make them resistant to drugs and radiation.”

So what is the takeaway here and what should you use as a milk substitute? Personally, I am not a fan of almond milk. Almond milk often can be found with carrageannan in it, which many believe is a carcinogen. Soy milk of course is out because it’s a GMO.

As a Health Coach, the only milk alternative I recommend is unsweetened, additive-free coconut milk.

How do you feel about feeding your family dairy products? Have you tried going dairy free yet?
