As a health advisor, I never tell anyone to stay away from treats. I firmly believe that something sweet should be an essential part of your diet. I find that if someone denies themselves something they love, they won’t stick to a healthy lifestyle.
Of course, there are so many ways to make a healthy version of your favorite treat. Don’t believe me? Open Pinterest, type in your favorite dessert or candy and I guarantee someone has come up with a healthy version.

For me, I absolutely love a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and my good friend Pam recently emailed me this recipe from Sara Wilson’s book I Quit Sugar: Your Complete 8-Week Detox Program and Cookbook.
Healthy Chocolate Nut Butter Cups Recipe
Ingredients:
- ½ cup coconut oil, melted
- ½ cup raw cacao powder
- 1 tablespoon brown rice syrup
- 2 tablespoons coconut cream
- ¼ cup peanut, macadamia or almond butter (whichever organic version is your favorite)
- Large pinch of sea salt
Directions:
- Arrange small paper candy cups on a baking pan.
- In a small bowl, combine the coconut oil and cacao powder until smooth, then stir in the syrup and coconut cream.
- Pour a thin layer into the bottom of the candy cups.
- Freeze for 5 minutes, then remove from the freezer and spoon 1/3 teaspoon of the nut butter into each one.
- Pour the remaining cacao mixture on top and scatter sea salt over.
- Refrigerate for 30 minutes until set [or, if you’re short of time, freeze them].
- Eat straight from the fridge – these will melt at room temperature.
Note:
If coconut cream, which can be found at some supermarkets and Asian food stores, is unavailable, you can substitute coconut milk. To thicken it, add 1 tablespoon of arrowroot for each cup of coconut milk.
