Why You Need Lemon Essential Oil
A little yellow lemon may be a staple food item in your home, but I’m here to tell you why lemon essential oil can replace that cute lemon.
Lemon essential oil is more potent that simply squeezing a lemon. To get just 15 ml of lemon essential oil, 45 lemons are used. Only a few drops of lemon essential oil are enough to get the desired effect.

Here are some of the health benefits of lemon essential oil:
Improves digestion
Lemon essential oil is helpful in soothing digestive problems. One study found that aromatherapy massage using essential oils helped relieve constipation.
Adding a few drops of Lemon oil to water can help reduce heartburn, acid indigestion, and it can help cleanse the liver and kidneys.
Assists in detox
You’ve heard that drinking lemon water is a great way to start your day. Well that’s because lemon is very effective at cleansing the liver as it promotes flushing out toxins. Studies have found that the citrus flavonoids in lemon may protect the liver against toxins and reduce fat in the liver, protecting against fatty liver disease (source).
Add 1-3 drops of lemon oil to your drinking water to assist in detoxing your lymphatic system. The lymphatic system helps the body cleanse itself of toxins and waste.
Clean your home
Due to its antimicrobial properties, lemon oil is perfect for cleaning your home of harmful bacteria, fungi and other unsafe pathogens. It can also be used to protect your food from bacterial growth (source).
Make a DIY all-purpose cleaning solution with 10 drops of lemon, 10 drops of melaleuca and 10 drops of OnGuard.
Stay focused
Many essential oils have a calming or relaxing effect on children with ADHD. This calming effect may help modify some of their behavioral symptoms. Lemon is one oil that have been found to improve mood and preventing emotional outbursts.
Diffuse a few drops of lemon oil and peppermint oil to help your kids stay focused.
Invigorate your skin
“Lab studies show that lemon oil is able to reduce cell and tissue damage in the skin that’s caused by free radicals. This is due to lemon oil’s strong antioxidant activity and anti-aging effects” (source).
To make your own homemade exfoliant scrub, combine 4–5 drops of lemon essential oil to a small amount of oatmeal and water. As you apply the Lemon oatmeal scrub to your skin, you will feel the cleansing and refreshing properties of Lemon oil working to exfoliate and clean your skin (source).
Boost your immune system
I saved the best for last. I’m all about boosting your immune system to ward off illness. Lemon oil is one of my secret weapons. Since lemon essential oil has antibacterial and antiviral properties, it can make you less prone to illness.
Lemon oil can be a powerful way to clear your sinuses as well. In a pot of steaming water, add five to ten drops, then sit back and inhale the steam while this essential oil works its magic on your sinuses.
