I’m Leann. Welcome to my blog about eating for a healthier, more energetic life!

My Mission

This blog is the result of everything I’ve learned through my 11 year journey of sickness and health. I came to where I’m at with my health the hard way and it’s my mission with this blog to provide a shortcut to health for your family by providing to you highlights and benefits of what I’ve learned and hopefully save you the time, effort, money and suffering that many families are facing with their health today.

My Story

I grew up in Iowa with a very large extended family of around 90 members. My grandparents had 11 kids, and my dad was the oldest. We farmed cattle, corn and soybeans. I still remember the winters that I sat in my grandparents garage and watched the uncles hang up a slaughtered cow, cut the beef off and put it through the grinder to make hamburger. The moms and kids would sit at picnic tables and make the patties for the families to divide up and store for the winter. I loved growing up in the country with nature and lots of animals. I loved the idea of being a true ‘country girl’ in the land of beef, corn and dairy.

Somewhere between my country upbringing, college-late-night-bad-for-you-food and crazy 20s when I tried every fad diet to get off the college pounds … something went wrong and I didn’t even know it was happening. the food I was eating began to change, and so did my health.

American Farmland With Blue Cloudy SkyIn 1998, I moved to Dallas, Texas and met and married my husband in 2002. Right away, we started trying to get pregnant. I had one miscarriage, then had a son in 2005. We desperately wanted another but it seemed as though our magic number was 5. After 5 pregnancies in 5 years, 5 fertility doctors told us to give it up and be happy with what we have because ‘it’s just not in the cards for us.’ At our darkest time, my son became very sick with chronic asthma and was on 5 different medications at once. We had also watched 4 out of 4 parents suffer through cancer, with only one surviving. At that point, I took matters into my own hands because I knew that there had to be a better way. I began reading every health book that I could get my hands on and didn’t stop until I topped over 100. I was looking for THE KEY TO HEALTH. And I found it food. Success - Golden Key.Within 3 months, my son was off all meds, I didn’t have any more headaches, I didn’t need a nap every day and … I was pregnant with my beautiful little girl.

Up until this experience, my background was marketing and sales as I tried to put to use the M.B.A. that I had paid for. But I found my true passion when I volunteered to be the Healthy Lifestyles PTA chairperson at my son’s elementary school. It was an amazing experience as I helped to create programs that changed the wellness of the school. I met another PTA chairperson who was a Health Coach and she doesn’t know it, but she changed my life. I enrolled in the world’s largest nutrition school, The Institute of Integrative Nutrition, where i studied over 100 different dietary and healing theories to become a Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner to help people meet their wellness goals.
