How Electronics Produce EMFs and How they Affect Our Health.
We all love technology. I personally love that I can look up a gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian recipe in a matter of seconds from my phone. My kids love that they can track their daily steps and compare with their friends. And my husband loves that he can check the score of the game from anywhere…even when we are on a date.
But have you ever stopped to think about what all of this technology is doing for our health? When you think about all of the technology in homes today – wifi, bluetooth devices, computers, tablets, cell phones, as well as the televisions and all the kitchen appliances – we are living in an electromagnetic soup. Or as others call it, “dirty electricity”
What are EMFs?
So what does all this technology produce that we cannot see? EMFs or Electromagnetic Frequencies are a combination of electric fields (from stationary charges), magnetic fields (from moving charges), and radio frequency radiation (like microwaves). All of the electronic items in your home produce EMFs at different strengths.
The intensity of EMFs are measured in milligauss (mG). The closer you are to an object, the stronger the intensity. For example, your hair dryer may have an EMF intensity of 1,000mG when you’re holding it. But as you walk 3 feet away, it drops down to just 10mG.
I should be noted that appliances and electronics do not have to be turned on to produce and electric field. As long as they are plugged in, EMFs are being generated.
EMFs and Cancer (and other health issues)
We already understand that EMFs are everywhere. Now we need to understand that they can interfere with your body’s complex communication system where cells, tissues and organs all need to function properly to keep you going. As Dr. Karl Maret explained, it’s just like a radio “and when you expose a radio antenna to a significant amount of external noise, you get static, and that is what is happening to your body in today’s EMF-saturated environment”.
Also, the IARC (International Agency on Research on Cancer) has classified EMF exposures as possible human carcinogens based on the scientific literature related to EMF and childhood leukemias. Other studies have been done on the link between EMFs and brain cancer, as well as breast cancer.
And according to Microwave News (which has been reporting on the potential health and environmental impacts of electromagnetic fields and radiation for 35 years), “most of the data supporting a cancer risk comes from studies of human populations, and many leading epidemiologists have found strong evidence for a link.”
So other than the links between EMFs and cancer, here are a few other illnesses EMFs can be linked to:
- Headaches
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Alzheimer’s
- Heart disease
What Items In Your Home Produce EMFs?
- All appliances
- Computers
- Tablets
- Cordless phones
- Wireless phones
- Security systems
- Televisions
- Microwave
- WiFi
- Wireless game systems
- Radar
- Bluetooth devices
- Fluorescent lighting
- Digital gas and electric meters
What Can You Do To Reduce EMFs?
Check out the line of products that my family uses from GIA Wellness (as featured in the documentary “Truth About Cancer”). They will reduce the emission of EMFs from your home/life.
