How Enzymes Play an Important Role in Your Health

Each day that I research how to help people maintain or improve their health, I am continually amazed by what I learn. The fact that the foods that come from the earth are so healthy for us and contain so many things that can keep us healthy, is just awe-inspiring.

So today I want to share about enzymes and how they can prevent serious diseases, even cancer.

What are Enzymes?

All of our bodies chemical processes need enzymes. Enzymes come from pancreatic production, but also from the food we eat. However, if our diet doesn’t consist of enough raw, plant-based foods, our bodies will not have enough enzymes to perform necessary functions.

So what are these functions that need enzymes? Some of the most important in our body – digestive system, and immune system, as well as detoxifying our bloodstream and organs (liver, spleen, kidneys and pancreas).

Proteolytic Enzymes

It’s important to know that not all enzymes are created equal. Each of the over 3,000 enzymes that have been identified, have specific tasks and work with specific molecules.

The term proteolytic enzymes actually encompasses many different enzymes that work to break down protein to amino acids in the digestive system. These enzymes are also known as immune system boosters. And it’s important to remember that 80% of our immune system is located in our gut, so the digestive system is crucial in protecting and enhancing our health.

Enzymes and Cancer

Cancer cells have a tough outer layer called fibrin. This layer prevents the immune system from doing its job – attacking the cancer cells. Enzymes serve to break down protein-based foreign agents, therefore allowing the immune system to destroy the cancer cells.

The nutrients in proteolytic enzymes – especially the fiber from papaya – have been shown to prevent colon cancer. How? They bind cancer-causing toxins and keep them away from other healthy cells. Doctors have also found that pancreatic enzymes, specifically, can destroy cancer cells.

With the mention of pancreatic enzymes, let’s touch on what they are. Pancreatic enzymes are actually proteolytic and the work to break down fats and carbohydrates, as well as proteins. In 1906, embryologist John Beard studied pancreatic enzymes as the body’s main defense against cancer. And today there is a cancer therapy that picked up where Beard left off called the Kelley Metabolic Protocol, where they have found a 93% cure rate on newly diagnosed cancer patients.

Proteolytic enzymes also have anti-inflammatory properties, which also help prevent autoimmune disease and cancer.

Want one more fact? Cancer patients often have low enzymes counts. In addition, enzyme therapy for these patients has been shown to decrease inflammation. Enzymes also increase the defense of natural killer cells and decrease tumor growth.

Where to Find Enzymes

Eat these foods to ensure you get enzymes in every meal:

  • Kefir
  • Fermented vegetables
  • Eggs
  • Fresh fruit (especially pineapple and papaya)
  • Raw apple cider vinegar
  • Raw honey
  • Coconut waterdoTERRA Terrazyme | GroovyBeets.com
  • Wheat grass juice

While food is where everyone should start, supplements do offer another layer of support.  I have researched and tried hundreds of enzyme supplements and note that it’s important to take ones that are clean and therapeutic. I strongly recommend taking supplements that are based on whole-foods and not synthetics.

This is why I like the doTERRA brand.  Their DigestZen TerraZyme® Digestive Enzyme Complex supports healthy digestion of food nutrients, as well as a healthy production of metabolic enzymes. This formula provides you with enzymes that are simply not found in foods that are cooked, processed or contain preservatives. Click here to order.
