Can You Detox Simply By Running a Bath?

It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of detoxing your body for your health.

And while your liver and kidneys are essential in ridding your body of toxins, your skin also plays a major role in a detox. After all, it is your largest organ.

There are many ways to detox your skin and I recommend a few types of detox baths. Depending on your end goal, each of these detox baths can guide those toxins our of your body and have you feeling refreshed and renewed.

A bath in general is great for stress relief, but when you add certain ingredients, it can do wonders for your mind and body. Lavender essential oil is a great addition to a relaxing bath to help you sleep (I recommend taking a bath right before bedtime). Adding lavender to your bath can also help relieve stress and anxiety and treat skin conditions, like eczema.

Detox Bath for Muscle Aches

Epsom salts are an amazing personal care product that you can buy at any drug store. When added to your bath, they have multiple benefits:

  • Reduces inflammation
  • Relieves stiffness
  • Induces sweating
  • Increases magnesium in the body (which is great for cancer patients and people fighting depression)
  • Provides itch relief
  • Helps fight off cold or flu

I especially recommend Epsom salts for relieving muscle aches because they will reduce inflammation while relieving the soreness.

Detox Bath for Sunburn Relief

No one enjoys being sunburn; it’s the worst when your skin feels like it’s on fire. For more information on naturally relieving a sunburn, check out my post on the topic. My other advice is to drink lots of water and take a nice healing bath with some apple cider vinegar. The apple cider vinegar will help restore your skin’s pH levels, leaving your skin feeling cool. But keep in mind that if your sunburn is really bad, you want to take a warm bath, not a hot one.

Detox Bath for Alkalinity

Baking soda (or sodium bicarbonate) is a great addition to your detox bath because it is a naturally alkaline substance. During a detox, it’s important to pay attention to the pH balance in your body. By alkalizing the body, those harmful toxins will be removed.

Bonus: balancing your pH levels is also a good aid in weight loss.

Why is a Detox Bath Important?

I firmly believe a good detox bath is a quick, easy way to get those toxins out. Gather the essentials and do-it-yourself in one evening. Easy-peasy.

I recommend taking a detox bath in hot water for at least 40 minutes. Hot water because it will cause you to sweat more (great for detoxing!) Your body will absorb the nutrients in the first 20 minutes and then release the toxins in the last 20.
