Many digestive issues and conditions of the stomach including parasites, microbes, yeast, abnormal flora, indigestion, bloating, and abdominal cramps may be the result of low levels of a substance called hydrochloric acid (HCL).
HCL is an acid in the stomach that sterilizes the stomach from unwanted critters and also begins the process of breaking down your latest meal.
If you don’t have adequate levels of HCL, you will be more likely to have unwanted parasites and microbes lurking in your gut AND you may not be breaking your food down properly.
This can result in decreased nutrient absorption and digestive distress. Because low levels of HCL are very common today, it is very likely that it is standing directly between you and your most vibrant self.
Because improved digestion and increased nutrient absorption is our top priority, I have a quick little at-home trick that helps to assess your HCL levels at home whenever you experience heartburn.
All you need is 2 ingredients:
- Unrefined apple cider vinegar or lemon juice
- Aloe
When you feel heartburn, take a tablespoon of pure unrefined apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. Both substances are fairly acidic. This will end in one of two scenarios.
Scenario 1:
If you swallow it and your heartburn subsides, then it is likely that you (along with many others) have low levels of hydrochloric acid (HCL).
Scenario 2:
If you swallow the apple cider vinegar and your condition worsens, it is safe to assume that you may, instead, have high levels of hydrochloric acid. This is where the aloe comes in handy. Place two-three capfuls into a glass of warm water and drink right away. The aloe should sooth your discomfort immediately.
Because HCL is so important, it would be in your best interest to give your HCL levels a boost.
This can be done by having hot water with lemon first thing in the morning and about 15 minutes before each meal. You can also opt for a capful of apple cider vinegar. Both substances will help to stimulate HCL and will aid the stomach in initiating digestion.
If you found that your HCL levels may be too high, try eliminating refined foods, fried foods, coffee, alcohol, chocolate, citrus and tomato-based foods which can all worsen symptoms.
It would also be wise to avoid eating 3-4 hours before bedtime, to chew thoroughly and eat in a calm, relaxed manner.
If you do not regularly experience heartburn but do notice abdominal pain, bloating, and a “full” feeling for several hours after a meal, this still suggests your levels of HCL may need assistance.
Try having lemon water and/or apple cider vinegar prior to your meals and feel better than ever.
