Looking to Serve Healthy Side Dishes this Thanksgiving?
If you’re anything like me, the turkey is not the star of your Thanksgiving dinner. For me, it’s all about the side dishes!
The problem with the traditional Thanksgiving side dishes – those buttery mashed potatoes or the sugar-loaded cranberry sauce – is that most of them are like 1,000 calories per serving. But I found some that are delicious, healthy and won’t make you feel guilty the next morning.
Crunchy Coleslaw
Made without mayo, this coleslaw recipe is yummy and healthier than your typical coleslaw. It’s also allergy friendly since its gluten free, dairy free and egg free. Win win!
Lemon Asparagus Quinoa
I found this asparagus recipe on To Simple Inspire and thought it was a great way to serve asparagus. Not everyone at the table may love asparagus, so with this recipe you can add a little flavor and texture to an otherwise (often) boring green veggie.
Roasted Sweet Potatoes With Honey and Cinnamon
Sweet potatoes are always a healthy alternative to those traditional white potato recipes. This sweet potato recipe from Buns in my Oven, is a fantastic addition to your Thanksgiving table. Made with only 6 ingredients, it’s easy to make and delicious.
Rainbow Roasted Vegetables
Speaking of vegetables, when your mom told you to “eat your colors!”, this recipe from Simple Vegan Blog is exactly what she was talking about. Not only is this Rainbow Roasted Vegetable recipe oil-free and super healthy, but it’s also pretty to look at.
Carrot Purée
Sure you can serve your usual heated up carrots, but this carrot puree recipe is amazing. It also happens to be paleo and dairy-free. Holistically Engineered is where I found the recipe and she has two options to choose from – savory and sweet.
Pan-seared Brussels Sprouts with Cranberries & Pecans
Brussels Sprouts have become the hip, new vegetable of choice and for good reason. Cooked correctly, brussels sprouts are delicious and this recipe from Rachel Shultz is no exception. Simply pan sear the brussels sprouts with cranberries and then add to barley, sprouts and pecans. Add gorgonzola if you’d like, but if you’re dairy-free, it’s still yummy without.
