Too Much Sun? Try These Natural Sunburn Remedies
If you missed my Safe Summer Sunscreen Guide, then you may have stayed out in the sun too long without proper protection. The good news is that if you do get sunburn, I have some natural sunburn relief ideas. Even better news – you may already have some of these items in your home and they’re all non-toxic.
Here are my 5 natural sunburn remedies:
Apple Cider Vinegar
Since it works as an astringent, apple cider vinegar constricts body tissue and reduces inflammation. Simply add 1 cup to a bath or soak a washcloth with apple cinder vinegar and apply to your sunburn for a few minutes.
Coconut Oil
Perfect as a moisturizer, coconut oil can prevent redness, swelling and itching. Plus it smells great. Just be careful, because it can stain clothing.
Aloe Vera
Even though it’s 99% water, aloe vera contains lots of vitamins and minerals. And pure aloe vera is cool to the touch, so it’s very soothing when you’ve been burned by the sun.
Tea
Tea contains tannic acid, which balances your pH level and pulls heat from sunburned skin. You can use either black tea or green tea in bags and soak them in cold water and pat on affected area. You can also add the tea bags to your bath.
Lavender Essential Oil
Last week I spoke about how some essential oils can regenerate tissue, well because of this the oil can relieve sunburn. Lavender essential oil in particular has anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Put a few drops on a damp wash cloth and apply after the burn cools down after your use aloe vera (or mix with aloe vera).
