A Cancer Therapy From the 1950’s Can Prevent Cancer Today.
The Gerson Therapy is a cancer treatment named after and founded by Dr. Max Gerson. It is a “natural treatment that activates the body’s extraordinary ability to heal itself through organic, plant-based diet, raw juices, coffee enemas, and natural supplements”
First, a little background on Dr. Gerson:
He was born in and attended medical school in Germany and had suffered from severe migraines much of his life, but began to focus on his diet rather than medicine to stop the headaches. It was later that a patient of Dr. Gerson’s found that the “migraine diet” had cured his skin tuberculosis. As a result of this, Dr. Gerson further studied the diet and saw what other illnesses it can help. After over 30 years of experimenting, Gerson published A Cancer Therapy: Results of 50 Cases, which details the diet, Dr. Gerson’s theories, and how to help treat and prevent cancer.
Dr. Gerson died in 1958, however his daughter started the Gerson Institute, a non-profit organization in San Diego, to carry on her father’s legacy and help other patients.

I recommend the Gerson Therapy as part of a comprehensive health and nutrition cancer plan, because there are no damaging side effects from eating right and detoxifying your body. The Gerson Therapy works as a booster to your immune system. And besides cancer, it can be used to treat arthritis, heart disease, allergies and other degenerative diseases.
Note: there are diseases that are not recommended for the Gerson Therapy and they include:
- ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease)
- Arthritis or Lupus after long term steroid use
- Dystrophy
- Multiple myeloma
- Pancreatic cancer after chemotherapy
- Parkinson’s disease
- Acute leukemia
Dr. Gerson believed in treating the whole body and not just focus on the area where the cancer is – which is what most doctors and cancer treatments do.
The main components of the Gerson Therapy are:
- Eating organic and vegetarian – the website includes a sample menu, which consists of oatmeal, rye bread with honey, salad, fresh vegetables, raw fruit, baked potato, brown rice, sweet potatoes, raisins.
- Following the set cooking techniques. For example, vegetables should be cooked on a low heat until well done. This is so the foods are “tender, easy to chew and digest, to help the weakened digestive system get the greatest amount of nutrition in the most accessible form (particularly minerals, proteins, and carbohydrates) from the food consumed.“
- Juicing – the average cancer patient following this therapy can expect to drink up to 13 glasses of fresh, organic raw juice per day. The institute has a list of recommended juicers.
- Taking the recommended supplements. They advise that you consult with a Gerson doctor to find out the right supplements for you.
- Detoxifying by doing coffee enemas, which are found to eliminate toxic residues from your body.
Lots of fresh, organic juices to provide enzymes, minerals and nutrients are incorporated into this therapy. When the juices are consumed, it breaks down diseased tissue in the body because oxygenation is doubled. Increased oxygen can kill cancer cells.
The cure rate for the Gerson Therapy was 50%, which may not seem great, but it’s actually amazing considering many cases Dr. Gerson experimented with were advanced. And we need to remember that this was before 1960; if Dr. Gerson were alive today, he would have more advanced technology and that rate would have been higher.
Currently, this therapy has had repeatedly good results with the following diseases: melanoma, lymphoma, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE).
For more information, check out the Gerson Institute website. There you can find lots of reading materials, as well as a list of certified Gerson practitioners, a juicer guide, and where you can purchase supplies for the therapy.
Have you heard of the Gerson Therapy? Would you try it to treat cancer or other illnesses?
