Recommended Uses for Wild Orange Essential Oil

The sweet scent of wild orange makes it a popular essential oil, and it’s also extremely versatile. Wild orange can be used topically, aromatically and internally for numerous benefits. Plus, it’s a scent that blends well with so many other oils.

Citrus sinensis is an evergreen tree commonly referred to as the Sweet Orange tree. As the name suggests, the tree bears sweet fruit that has many uses—juices, marmalades or jellies, and flavoring for sweets and baked goods. Wild Orange essential oil is actually extracted from the rind of the fruit through the process of cold pressing.

Chemical Components

The primary chemical constituent of wild orange essential oil, Limonene, is a monoterpene that is known for its cleansing properties when used as a skin or surface cleanser, as well as its stimulating and enhancing effects on mood when used aromatically. This chemical profile is why wild orange essential oil is so useful in everyday life. The cleansing properties of the oil make it useful for homemade cleaning agents. The stimulating effects of Limonene also make wild orange essential oil popular for diffusing and topical application when users want to promote energizing or uplifting feelings.

Benefits of Wild Orange Essential Oil

Supports Immune System

Experimental research shows that wild orange can provide antioxidant support. This helps boost your immune system, as well as support the proper function your digestive, nervous and respiratory systems (source).

To use: add one or two drops to a veggie capsule to help support a healthy immune system. Or you can add a few drops to your favorite tea or to a glass of water every day to add flavor and promote overall health.

Enhances Mood

The strong, sweet, citrus aroma makes wild orange great for promoting and energizing an uplifting environment, or simply creating a pleasant smell in the home. It’s also been shown to reduce feelings of anxiousness or tension (source).

To use: at the beginning of a stress-filled day, diffuse it to provide a revitalizing aroma that will help get you through any task. And then if you’re feeling a lack of energy in the late afternoon, diffuse it to help lift your mood and increase awareness.

Purifies the Air

Wild orange oil contains purifying properties because of its high concentration of monoterpenes, which are a natural air purifier.

To use: to harness the purifying power and aroma, place a few drops on your air filter at home. This will improve your home’s scent while simultaneously purifying the air.

In the same way wild orange is great for cleansing the air, it’s also useful in cleaning surfaces. I love making my own natural all-purpose cleaner to use in my home.
